Week 2
This week we looked at the job roles in the new media sector. There are many jobs in this industry and it is deemed better to know what you want to go into in order to develop. It was then tasked to work in groups and research a role within the industry that we were interested in. In class I decided to look into Radio Presenting, however this was due to my partners choice. I have always been interested in being behind the camera whether it'd be TV or Film, therefore I will be researching and analysing the role of a Producer.
Skill set
In order to develop and increase these skills, I will be looking into the areas that I am currently struggling with i.e API's and improve on those. I have decided to work on my current skill set as I need to perfect the skills I have before learning and engaging with others. For this, every week I will be watching tutorials on YouTube and using Mandy to improve my skills. API's are a valued skill within the new media market as it allows two or more programs to communicate and improve user experiences.
There are multiple employers that seek the role of a new media worker this is due to the rise of users using technology and engaging with it. Businesses are seeking this time and era to transfer what they know into usable and easy to access apps, websites, social media accounts in order to be relevant and boost consumerism. Many of these companies for example Buzzfeed rely on new media interfaces and interactivity to gain followers and generate interest. The use online platforms such as various YouTube channels, and a website that carries the latest news and quizzes that people believe are going to give hem some kind of insight. I believe that Buzzfeed's ethos is to feed us with wanted and unwanted information that we can learn from.
Freelance work is something people frown upon for it connotates irregular income, however it has its upsides such as it's capabilities to have freedom, be in charge of yourself and your business. Freelance work is an up and coming role that more industry professionals are converting to. Being a freelancer means that you are you have to skilled and trained to a high degree in different areas of the field.

:
The developing route for a job like this starts from being a:
- Runner
Being a runner requires me to assist in anyway of which I can to meet the demands of the business. It is expected of me to assist everyone on the team, even if it means making them a cup of tea, to prioritise and keep track of receipts. I could be working from and office at times to running errands, and that is why it is so important to have a car and be mobile.
- Researcher (Junior and Progress)
As a researcher it will be my job to find people that want to be on the screen, locations to film and props. It will be required of me to have a numerous amount of ideas and great organisation skills as I will be needing to schedule travel and access to certain areas. This role also asks of me to be highly skilled in reading, listening and adapting.
- Assistant Producer
Skill set
I believe that my current skill set needs improving in order to meet the standards of the industry. As a student that is soon going to be working in the media industry it is important for me to establish who I am and to the best of my ability. My skill set majorly ranges from 3's- 7's on the likert scale however, this is not good enough to categorise myself as a professional. The media industry is hard to get into, and it is my job to make sure that I am the best person that I can be. The industry requires knowledge and many transferable skills. My skill set shows that I am limited in certain areas and that I need to increase my skill set in order to be flexible and versatile.
